GREAT IFE.
By God's grace, the greatness and popularity of
the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is
by no means an accident. Founded in 1962 as the
University of Ife but rechristened by the
Federal Military Government as the Obafemi
Awolowo University on May 12, 1987, in honour of
one of its most distinguished founding fathers
and eminent nationalist, politician, lawyer,
statesman and former chancellor - Chief
Obafemi Awolowo.
In research productivity, Great Ife is
ranked as the most productive university
in Nigeria by the National Universities
Commission (NUC) and by Shanghai Jiaotong
University World rankings as it relates to
Africa. Ife has attracted young Nigerian
students because, for a long time, it had no
lower age limit for admission.
The Ife campus is regarded as "Africa's
most beautiful campus", and the university
is endowed with beautiful architecture and an
eye catching landscape built on about 5,000
acres of a total of 13,000 acres of the land
owned by the university. |
